In Catalonia, Spain, the Unified Socialist Party of Catalonia is founded through the merger of Socialist and Communist parties. (23. July 1936)

In Germany, Adolf Hitler receives 99% of the votes in a referendum to ratify Germany's illegal reoccupation of the Rhineland, receiving 44.5 million votes out of 45.5 million registered voters. (29. March 1936)

Sada Abe is arrested after wandering the streets of Tokyo for days with her dead lover's severed genitals in her hand. Her story soon becomes one of Japan's most notorious scandals. (21. May 1936)

The first building to be completely covered in glass, built for the Owens-Illinois Glass Company, is completed in Toledo, Ohio. (15. January 1936)

Spanish Civil War: An Armed Forces rebellion against the recently elected leftist Popular Front government of Spain starts the civil war. (17. July 1936)

Aer Lingus (Aer Loingeas) is founded by the Irish government as the national airline of the Republic of Ireland. (15. April 1936)
