Twenty-nine coal miners are killed in an explosion at the Upper Big Branch Mine in West Virginia. (5. April 2010)

The South Kivu tank truck explosion in the Democratic Republic of the Congo kills at least 230 people. (2. July 2010)

An overloaded passenger ferry capsizes on the Kasai River in Bandundu Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, resulting in at least 80 deaths. (29. July 2010)

JAXA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, launches the solar-sail spacecraft IKAROS aboard an H-IIA rocket. The vessel would make a Venus flyby late in the year. (21. May 2010)

In West Bengal, India, a train derailment and subsequent collision kills 141 passengers. (28. May 2010)

Five murderers of President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of Bangladesh are hanged. (28. January 2010)

At least 40 people are killed and more than 70 others are wounded as an explosion rips through an evening wedding party in Arghandab, Kandahar. (9. June 2010)

Maoist rebels kill 76 CRPF officers in Dantewada district, India. (6. April 2010)

A freak storm in the Hindukush mountains of Afghanistan triggers a series of at least 36 avalanches, burying over two miles of road, killing at least 172 people and trapping over 2,000 travelers. (8. February 2010)

A bomb explodes in the city of Pune, Maharashtra, India, killing 17 and injuring 60 more. (13. February 2010)

Airblue Flight 202 crashes into the Margalla Hills north of Islamabad, Pakistan, killing all 152 people aboard. It is the deadliest aviation accident in Pakistan history and the first involving an Airbus A321. (28. July 2010)

The Royal Thai Armed Forces concludes its crackdown on protests by forcing the surrender of United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship leaders. (19. May 2010)

An Air India Express Boeing 737 goes over a cliff and crashes upon landing at Mangalore, India, killing 158 of the 166 people on board. It is the worst crash involving a Boeing 737. (22. May 2010)

Muslim gunmen in Egypt open fire on a crowd of Coptic Christians, killing eight of them and one Muslim bystander. (7. January 2010)

Bhutan becomes the first country to institute a total ban on tobacco. (16. June 2010)

Nearly 2,700 are killed in a magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai, China. (14. April 2010)

Falcon 9 Flight 1 is the maiden flight of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which launches from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Space Launch Complex 40. (4. June 2010)
