The Citizen's Committee of Public Safety, led by Lorrin A. Thurston, overthrows the government of Queen Liliuokalani of the Kingdom of Hawaii. (17. January 1893)

The USS Indiana, the lead ship of her class and the first battleship in the United States Navy comparable to foreign battleships of the time, is launched. (28. February 1893)

The small town of Pomeroy, Iowa, is nearly destroyed by a tornado that killed 71 people and injured 200. (6. July 1893)

The Supreme Court of the United States rules in Nix v. Hedden that a tomato is a vegetable, not a fruit, under the Tariff Act of 1883. (10. May 1893)

The rank of Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy is established. (1. April 1893)

Electrical engineer Nikola Tesla gives the first public demonstration of radio in St. Louis, Missouri. (1. March 1893)

The Corinth Canal in the Gulf of Corinth, Greece is used for the first time. (25. July 1893)

The Royal Navy battleship HMS Camperdown accidentally rams the British Mediterranean Fleet flagship HMS Victoria which sinks taking 358 crew with her, including the fleet's commander, Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon. (22. June 1893)

Ibadan area becomes a British Protectorate after a treaty signed by Fijabi, the Baale of Ibadan with the British acting Governor of Lagos, George C. Denton. (15. August 1893)

Lizzie Borden is acquitted of the murders of her father and stepmother. (20. June 1893)
