Over 1,000 bombers attack the small island of Heligoland, Germany. (18. April 1945)

The Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang signed a principle agreement in Chongqing about the future of post-war China. Later, the pact is commonly referred to as the Double-Ten Agreement. (10. October 1945)

World War II: The Flensburg Government under Reichspräsident Karl Dönitz is dissolved when its members are captured and arrested by British forces at Flensburg in Northern Germany. (23. May 1945)

World War II: The Channel Islands are liberated by the British after five years of German occupation. (9. May 1945)

World War II: After an air raid accidentally destroys a train carrying about 4,000 Nazi concentration camp internees in Prussian Hanover, the survivors are massacred by Nazis. (8. April 1945)

World War II: As part of Operation Thunderclap, 1,000 B-17s of the Eighth Air Force bomb Berlin, a raid which kills between 2,500 to 3,000 and dehouses another 120,000. (3. February 1945)

World War II: The German pocket battleship Admiral Scheer is sunk. (9. April 1945)

World War II: Capitulation of German garrison in Poznań. The city is liberated by Soviet and Polish forces. (23. February 1945)

World War II: A German newsreader officially announces that Adolf Hitler has "fallen at his command post in the Reich Chancellery fighting to the last breath against Bolshevism and for Germany". The Soviet flag is raised over the Reich Chancellery, by order of Stalin. (1. May 1945)

Australian Imperial Forces land in Brunei Bay to liberate Brunei. (10. June 1945)

Diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Brazil are established. (2. April 1945)

The Halifax Riot starts when thousands of civilians and servicemen rampage through Halifax. (8. May 1945)

World War II: Navigational error leads to the mistaken bombing of Prague, Czechoslovakia by an American squadron of B-17s assisting in the Soviet's Vistula–Oder Offensive. (14. February 1945)

The Red Army begins the final assault on German forces around Berlin, with nearly one million troops fighting in the Battle of the Seelow Heights. (16. April 1945)

World War II: The German army in Italy unconditionally surrenders to the Allies. (29. April 1945)

World War II: Japanese Kamikaze planes sink the escort carrier USS Bismarck Sea and damage the USS Saratoga. (21. February 1945)
