World Trade Center bombing: In New York City, a truck bomb parked below the North Tower of the World Trade Center explodes, killing six and injuring over a thousand. (26. February 1993)

The Palestine Liberation Organization officially recognizes Israel as a legitimate state. (9. September 1993)

Catherine Callbeck becomes premier of Prince Edward Island and the first woman to be elected in a general election as premier of a Canadian province. (29. March 1993)

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin shakes hands with PLO chairman Yasser Arafat at the White House after signing the Oslo Accords granting limited Palestinian autonomy. (13. September 1993)

In Thailand, a fire at the Kader Toy Factory kills 156 workers. (10. May 1993)

North Korea nuclear weapons program: North Korea says that it plans to withdraw from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and refuses to allow inspectors access to its nuclear sites. (12. March 1993)

Rachel Whiteread wins both the £20,000 Turner Prize award for best British modern artist and the £40,000 K Foundation art award for the worst artist of the year. (23. November 1993)

General Motors sues NBC after Dateline NBC allegedly rigs two crashes intended to demonstrate that some GM pickups can easily catch fire if hit in certain places. NBC settles the lawsuit the next day. (8. February 1993)

Several bombs explode in Bombay (Mumbai), India, killing about 300 and injuring hundreds more. (12. March 1993)

The Blizzard of 1993 – Snow begins to fall across the eastern portion of the US with tornadoes, thunder snow storms, high winds and record low temperatures. The storm lasts for 30 hours. (12. March 1993)

Anti-Nazism riot breaks out in Welling in Kent, after police stop protesters approaching the British National Party headquarters. (16. October 1993)

The Troubles: The Ulster Defence Association, an Ulster loyalist paramilitary, carry out a mass shooting at a Halloween party in Greysteel, Northern Ireland. Eight civilians are murdered and thirteen wounded. (30. October 1993)

Janet Reno is confirmed by the United States Senate and sworn in the next day, becoming the first female Attorney General of the United States. (11. March 1993)

Savings and loan crisis: The United States Senate Ethics Committee issues a stern censure of California senator Alan Cranston for his "dealings" with savings-and-loan executive Charles Keating. (20. November 1993)
