The Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution is ratified, authorizing the Federal government to impose and collect an income tax. (3. February 1913)

First Balkan War: the Treaty of London (1913), is signed ending the war. Albania becomes an independent nation. (30. May 1913)

Grand Central Terminal is opened in New York City. (2. February 1913)

The Battle of Bud Bagsak in the Philippines ends. (15. June 1913)

Greece and Serbia annul their alliance with Bulgaria. (24. June 1913)

Over 360 are killed and 20,000 homes destroyed in the Great Dayton Flood in Dayton, Ohio. (21. March 1913)

The Greek–Serbian Treaty of Alliance is signed, paving the way for the Second Balkan War. (1. June 1913)

King George I of Greece was assassinated in the recently liberated city of Thessaloniki. (18. March 1913)

Second Balkan War: The Greeks defeat the Bulgarians in the Battle of Doiran. (23. June 1913)

Canberra Day: The future capital of Australia is officially named Canberra. (Melbourne remains temporary capital until 1927 while the new capital is still under construction.) (12. March 1913)

The Nevill Ground's pavilion is destroyed in a suffragette arson attack becoming the only cricket ground to be attacked by suffragettes. (11. April 1913)

The Norwegian football club Vålerenga Fotball was founded. (29. July 1913)

Pedro Lascuráin becomes President of Mexico for 45 minutes; this is the shortest term to date of any person as president of any country. (18. February 1913)

Second Balkan War: Serbian forces begin their siege of the Bulgarian city of Vidin; the siege is later called off when the war ends. (12. July 1913)

President Woodrow Wilson addresses American Civil War veterans at the Great Reunion of 1913. (4. July 1913)
