Four men convicted of bombing the World Trade Center in New York in 1993 are each sentenced to 240 years in prison. (24. May 1994)

The 1994 Stanley Cup riot occurs after the New York Rangers win the Stanley Cup from Vancouver, causing an estimated CA$1.1 million, leading to 200 arrests and injuries. (14. June 1994)

Auburn Calloway attempts to hijack FedEx Express Flight 705 and crash it to insure his family with his life insurance policy. The crew subdues him and lands the aircraft safely. (7. April 1994)

Nelson Mandela is inaugurated as South Africa's first black president. (10. May 1994)

The Democratic Republic of Yemen unsuccessful attempts to secede from the Republic of Yemen; a war breaks out. (21. May 1994)

Eugene Bullard, the only black pilot in World War I, is posthumously commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. (23. August 1994)

Kim Jong-il begins to assume supreme leadership of North Korea upon the death of his father, Kim Il-sung. (8. July 1994)

American teenager Michael P. Fay is caned in Singapore for theft and vandalism, a punishment that many in the United States deemed to be excessive for a teenager committing a non-violent crime. However, significant numbers of Americans were also in favor of it. (5. May 1994)

In South Africa, Zulus and African National Congress supporters battle in central Johannesburg, resulting in 18 deaths. (28. March 1994)

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO leader Yasser Arafat sign a peace accord regarding Palestinian autonomy granting self-rule in the Gaza Strip and Jericho. (4. May 1994)
