The first airship powered by (a steam) engine, created by Henri Giffard, travels 17 miles (27 km) from Paris to Trappes. (24. September 1852)

Jenny Lind left New York after her wildly successful two-year American tour. (29. May 1852)

Congress establishes the United States' 2nd mint in San Francisco. (3. July 1852)

Count Camillo Benso di Cavour becomes the prime minister of Piedmont-Sardinia, which soon expands to become Italy. (4. November 1852)
