Pierre and Marie Curie refine radium chloride. (20. April 1902)

The Pittsburgh Stars defeated the Philadelphia Athletics, 11-0, at the Pittsburgh Coliseum, to win the first championship associated with an American national professional football league. (29. November 1902)

Dmitry Sipyagin, Minister of Interior of the Russian Empire, is assassinated in the Marie Palace, St Petersburg. (2. April 1902)

The Syracuse Athletic Club defeated the New York Philadelphians, 5-0, in the first indoor professional football game, which was held at Madison Square Garden. (28. December 1902)

Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark are crowned King and Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. (9. August 1902)

The Campanile in St. Mark's Square, Venice collapses, also demolishing the loggetta. (14. July 1902)

The Philadelphia Football Athletics defeated the Kanaweola Athletic Club of Elmira, New York, 39-0, in the first ever professional American football night game. (21. November 1902)

In Martinique, Mount Pelée erupts, destroying the town of Saint-Pierre and killing over 30,000 people. Only a handful of residents survive the blast. (8. May 1902)

Quetzaltenango, the second largest city of Guatemala, is destroyed by an earthquake. (18. April 1902)

American Old West: Kid Curry Logan, second-in-command of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch gang, is sentenced to 20 years imprisonment with hard labor. (30. November 1902)
