The infamous first Reyes party between Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters and motorcycle gang the Hells Angels takes place at Kesey's estate in La Honda, California introducing psychedelics to the gang world and forever linking the hippie movement to the Hell's Angels. (7. August 1965)

The Aero Spacelines Super Guppy aircraft makes its first flight. (31. August 1965)

Civil war breaks out in the Dominican Republic when Colonel Francisco Caamaño, overthrows the triumvirate that had been in power since the coup d'état against Juan Bosch. (24. April 1965)

Indo-Pakistani War: The Indian Army captures the town of Burki, just southeast of Lahore. (11. September 1965)

The 30 September Movement attempts a coup against the Indonesian government, which is crushed by the military under Suharto and leads to a mass anti-communist purge, with over 500,000 people killed. (30. September 1965)

The Supreme Court of the United States handed down its decision in Griswold v. Connecticut, effectively legalizing the use of contraception by married couples. (7. June 1965)

Bob Dylan goes electric as he plugs in at the Newport Folk Festival, signaling a major change in folk and rock music. (25. July 1965)

The Constitution of Cook Islands comes into force, giving the Cook Islands self-governing status within New Zealand. (4. August 1965)

The Mont Blanc Tunnel linking France and Italy opens. (16. July 1965)

Full independence is granted to the Maldives. (26. July 1965)

Vietnam War: the first 4,000 101st Airborne Division paratroopers arrive in Vietnam, landing at Cam Ranh Bay. (29. July 1965)

The launch of Gemini 4, the first multi-day space mission by a NASA crew. Ed White, a crew member, performs the first American spacewalk. (3. June 1965)

Japanese prime minister Eisaku Satō becomes the first post-World War II sitting prime minister to visit Okinawa Prefecture. (19. August 1965)

PIA Flight 705, a Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 720-040B, crashes while descending to land at Cairo International Airport, killing 121 of the 127 passengers and crew. (20. May 1965)

Nguyen Cao Ky becomes Prime Minister of South Vietnam at the head of a military junta; General Nguyen Van Thieu becomes the figurehead chief of state. (14. June 1965)

The Beatles play to nearly 60,000 fans at Shea Stadium in New York, New York, an event later regarded as the birth of stadium rock. (15. August 1965)

Astrodome opens. First indoor baseball game is played. (9. April 1965)

U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Social Security Act of 1965 into law, establishing Medicare and Medicaid. (30. July 1965)

War of 1965: India retaliates following Pakistan's Operation Grand Slam which resulted in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 that ends in a stalemate and follows the signing of the Tashkent Declaration. (6. September 1965)
