White Star Line's RMS Olympic collides with British warship HMS Hawke. (20. September 1911)

Ishi, considered the last Native American to make contact with European Americans, emerges from the wilderness of northeastern California. (29. August 1911)

After declaring war on the Ottoman Empire on September 29, 1911, Italy annexes Tripoli and Cyrenaica. (5. November 1911)

The hull of the ocean liner RMS Titanic is launched. (31. May 1911)

The Doom Bar in Cornwall claimed two ships, Island Maid and Angele, the latter killing the entire crew except the captain. (19. November 1911)

Harry Atwood, an exhibition pilot for the Wright Brothers lands his airplane at the South Lawn of the White House. He is later awarded a Gold medal from U.S. President William Howard Taft for this feat. (14. July 1911)

An explosion of badly degraded propellant charges on board the French battleship Liberté detonates the forward ammunition magazines and destroys the ship. (25. September 1911)
