The USS Cole is badly damaged in Aden, Yemen, by two suicide bombers, killing 17 crew members and wounding at least 39. (12. October 2000)

NASA launches STS-92, the 100th Space Shuttle mission, using Space Shuttle Discovery. (11. October 2000)

The 2000 Baku earthquake, with a Richter magnitude of 7.0, leaves 26 people dead in Baku, Azerbaijan, and becomes the strongest earthquake in the region in 158 years. (25. November 2000)

A powerful solar flare, later named the Bastille Day event, causes a geomagnetic storm on Earth. (14. July 2000)

EADS, the world's second-largest aerospace group is formed by the merger of Aérospatiale-Matra, DASA, and CASA. (10. July 2000)

Philippine House Speaker Manny Villar passes the articles of impeachment against Philippine President Joseph Estrada. (13. November 2000)

Israel complies with United Nations Security Council Resolution 425 22 years after its issuance, which calls on Israel to completely withdraw from Lebanon. Israel does so, except the disputed Shebaa Farms. (16. June 2000)

Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley is raised to the surface after 136 years on the ocean floor and 30 years after its discovery by undersea explorer E. Lee Spence. (8. August 2000)
