The Royal Navy battleship HMS Camperdown accidentally rams the British Mediterranean Fleet flagship HMS Victoria which sinks taking 358 crew with her, including the fleet's commander, Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon. (22. June 1893)

A revolution led by the liberal general and politician, José Santos Zelaya, takes over state power in Nicaragua. (11. July 1893)

The small town of Pomeroy, Iowa, is nearly destroyed by a tornado that killed 71 people and injured 200. (6. July 1893)
