During a severe thunderstorm over Washington state, a hijacker calling himself Dan Cooper (aka D. B. Cooper) parachutes from a Northwest Orient Airlines plane with $200,000 in ransom money. He has never been found. (24. November 1971)
Pakistan severs diplomatic relations with India following New Delhi's recognition of Bangladesh. (6. December 1971)
Sold, dismantled and moved to the United States, London Bridge reopens in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. (10. October 1971)
A gas explosion kills 22 people at a shopping center in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, near Glasgow, Scotland. (21. October 1971)
