Toyota Motors becomes an independent company. (28. August 1937)

Hindenburg disaster: The German zeppelin Hindenburg catches fire and is destroyed within a minute while attempting to dock at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Thirty-six people are killed. (6. May 1937)

Spanish Civil War: Peña Blanca is taken; the end of the Battle of El Mazuco. (22. September 1937)

Second Sino-Japanese War: The Chinese Eighth Route Army gains a minor, but morale-boosting victory in the Battle of Pingxingguan. (25. September 1937)

Josip Broz Tito reads the resolution "Manifesto of constitutional congress of KPH" to the constitutive congress of KPH (Croatian Communist Party) in woods near Samobor. (1. August 1937)

Spanish Civil War: The Battle of Guadalajara begins. (8. March 1937)

A sit-down strike ends when General Motors recognizes the United Auto Workers. (11. February 1937)

Howard Hughes sets a new air record by flying from Los Angeles, California to New York City in 7 hours, 28 minutes, 25 seconds. (19. January 1937)

Spanish Civil War: The German Condor Legion, equipped with Heinkel He 51 biplanes, arrives in Spain to assist Francisco Franco's forces. (7. May 1937)

The New London School explosion killed 300 people, mostly children. (18. March 1937)

New Deal: the United States Senate votes down President Franklin D. Roosevelt's proposal to add more justices to the Supreme Court of the United States. (22. July 1937)

A German expedition led by Karl Wien loses sixteen members in an avalanche on Nanga Parbat. It is the worst single disaster to occur on an 8000m peak. (15. June 1937)

Spanish Civil War: Llanes falls to the Nationalists following a one-day siege. (5. September 1937)

Tōngzhōu Incident: in Tōngzhōu, China, the East Hopei Army attacks Japanese troops and civilians. (29. July 1937)

The Battle of Shanghai begins. (13. August 1937)

Spanish Civil War: Guernica (or Gernika in Basque), Spain is bombed by German Luftwaffe. (26. April 1937)
