Maximilian I of the Second Mexican Empire is executed by a firing squad in Querétaro, Querétaro. (19. June 1867)

Work begins on the covering of the Zenne, burying Brussels's primary river and creating the modern central boulevards. (13. February 1867)

Seventy years of Holy See-United States relations are ended by a Congressional ban on federal funding of diplomatic envoys to the Vatican and are not restored until January 10, 1984. (28. February 1867)

The Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867 ("the Compromise") is born through Act 12, which establishes the Austro-Hungarian Empire. (29. May 1867)

Harvard School of Dental Medicine is established in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the first dental school in the U.S. that is affiliated with a university. (17. July 1867)
