Japanese troops take control of Shanghai, China. (9. November 1937)

Great Purge: The Soviet Union under Joseph Stalin executes eight army leaders. (11. June 1937)

Memorial Day massacre: Chicago police shoot and kill 10 labor demonstrators. (30. May 1937)

The Battle of Shanghai begins. (13. August 1937)

Tōngzhōu Incident: in Tōngzhōu, China, the East Hopei Army attacks Japanese troops and civilians. (29. July 1937)

Hindenburg disaster: The German zeppelin Hindenburg catches fire and is destroyed within a minute while attempting to dock at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Thirty-six people are killed. (6. May 1937)

Dominican Republic strongman Rafael Trujillo orders the execution of the Haitian population living within the borderlands; approximately 20,000 are killed over the next five days. (2. October 1937)

Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan are last heard from over the Pacific Ocean while attempting to make the first equatorial round-the-world flight. (2. July 1937)
