World War II: The Captain class frigate HMS Goodall K479 is torpedoed by U-286 outside the Kola Inlet becoming the last ship of the Royal Navy sunk in the European theatre of World War II. (29. April 1945)

The United States Army liberates Nazi Sonderlager (high security) prisoner-of-war camp Oflag IV-C (better known as Colditz). (16. April 1945)

World War II: The Flensburg Government under Reichspräsident Karl Dönitz is dissolved when its members are captured and arrested by British forces at Flensburg in Northern Germany. (23. May 1945)

Osijek, Croatia, is liberated from fascist occupation. (14. April 1945)

The Yugoslav partisans free Trieste. (1. May 1945)

World War II: The Channel Islands are liberated by the British after five years of German occupation. (9. May 1945)

World War II: Visoko is liberated by the 7th, 9th, and 17th Krajina brigades from the Tenth division of Yugoslav Partisan forces. (7. April 1945)

Benito Mussolini and his mistress Clara Petacci are executed by a firing squad consisting of members of the Italian resistance movement. (28. April 1945)
