Battle of Segale: Negus Mikael, marching on the Ethiopian capital in support of his son Emperor Iyasus V, is defeated by Fitawrari abte Giyorgis, securing the throne for Empress Zauditu. (27. October 1916)

World War I: Germany declares war on Romania. (28. August 1916)

World War I: Battle of Romani – Allied forces, under the command of Archibald Murray, defeat an attacking Ottoman army under the command of Friedrich Freiherr Kress von Kressenstein, securing the Suez Canal and beginning the Ottoman retreat from the Sinai Peninsula. (5. August 1916)

The Quebec Bridge's central span collapses, killing 11 men. The bridge initially collapsed in toto on August 29, 1907. (11. September 1916)
