England and the Netherlands sign the Treaty of Westminster, ending the Third Anglo-Dutch War. A provision of the agreement transfers the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam to England, and it is renamed New York. (19. February 1674)

The nobility elect John Sobieski King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. (21. May 1674)

Shivaji, founder of the Maratha empire, is crowned. (6. June 1674)

Second Tantrik Coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. (24. September 1674)

Anglo-Dutch War: As provided in the Treaty of Westminster, Netherlands cedes New Netherlands to England. (10. November 1674)

Father Jacques Marquette founds a mission on the shores of Lake Michigan to minister to the Illiniwek. (The mission would later grow into the city of Chicago, Illinois.) (4. December 1674)
