The infamous first Reyes party between Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters and motorcycle gang the Hells Angels takes place at Kesey's estate in La Honda, California introducing psychedelics to the gang world and forever linking the hippie movement to the Hell's Angels. (7. August 1965)

The British Indian Ocean Territory is created, consisting of Chagos Archipelago, Aldabra, Farquhar and Des Roches islands. (8. November 1965)

Project Ranger: The Ranger 8 probe launches on its mission to photograph the Mare Tranquillitatis region of the Moon in preparation for the manned Apollo missions. Mare Tranquillitatis or the "Sea of Tranquility" would become the site chosen for the Apollo 11 lunar landing. (17. February 1965)

Vietnam War: In response to U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson's call for "more flags" in Vietnam, Philippine President-elect Ferdinand Marcos announces he will send troops to help fight in South Vietnam. (28. November 1965)

Ranger 8 crashes into the moon after a successful mission of photographing possible landing sites for the Apollo program astronauts. (20. February 1965)

The British Government announces the cancellation of the TSR-2 aircraft project. (6. April 1965)

The Palm Sunday tornado outbreak of 1965: Fifty-one tornadoes hit in six Midwestern states, killing 256 people. (11. April 1965)

Bob Dylan goes electric as he plugs in at the Newport Folk Festival, signaling a major change in folk and rock music. (25. July 1965)

Pope Paul VI arrives in New York, the first Pope to visit the United States of America and the Western hemisphere. (4. October 1965)

Malcolm X is assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City by members of the Nation of Islam. (21. February 1965)

Vietnam War: American warships begin the first bombardment of National Liberation Front targets within South Vietnam. (27. May 1965)

Vietnam War: The United States uses B-52 bombers to attack National Liberation Front guerrilla fighters in South Vietnam. (18. June 1965)

Teenage sniper Michael Andrew Clark kills three and wounds six others shooting from a hilltop along Highway 101 just south of Santa Maria, California. (25. April 1965)

In the Hammaguir launch facility in the Sahara Desert, France launches a Diamant-A rocket with its first satellite, Asterix-1, on board. (26. November 1965)

Cosmonaut Aleksei Leonov, leaving his spacecraft Voskhod 2 for 12 minutes, became the first person to walk in space. (18. March 1965)

Nostra Aetate, the "Declaration on the Relation of the Church with Non-Christian Religions" of the Second Vatican Council, is promulgated by Pope Paul VI; it absolves the Jews of responsibility for the death of Jesus, reversing Innocent III's 760 year-old declaration. (28. October 1965)

Vietnam War: Just miles from Da Nang, United States Marines repel an intense attack by wave after wave of Viet Cong forces, killing 56 guerrillas. (30. October 1965)

Cuba and the United States formally agree to begin an airlift for Cubans who want to go to the United States. By 1971, 250,000 Cubans had made use of this program. (6. November 1965)

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 begins as Pakistani soldiers cross the Line of Control dressed as locals. (5. August 1965)
