First tank-to-tank combat, at Villers-Bretonneux, France, when three British Mark IVs meet three German A7Vs. (24. April 1918)

The Soviet Union adopts the Gregorian calendar (on 1 February according to the Julian calendar). (14. February 1918)

The Council of Lithuania unanimously adopts the Act of Independence, declaring Lithuania an independent state. (16. February 1918)

Bessarabia joins the Kingdom of Romania. (27. March 1918)

Manfred von Richthofen, aka The Red Baron, shoots down his 79th and 80th victims, his final victories before his death the following day. (20. April 1918)

The Royal Air Force is created by the merger of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service. (1. April 1918)

First World War: On the third day of the German Spring Offensive, the 10th Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment is annihilated with many of the men becoming Prisoners of war (23. March 1918)

Russia adopts the Gregorian Calendar. (1. February 1918)

Estonian Declaration of Independence. (24. February 1918)

The U.S. Congress establishes time zones and approves daylight saving time. (19. March 1918)

Germany, Austria and Russia sign the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk ending Russia's involvement in World War I, and leading to the independence of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. (3. March 1918)

Daylight saving time goes into effect in the United States for the first time. (31. March 1918)
