First Balkan War: the Treaty of London (1913), is signed ending the war. Albania becomes an independent nation. (30. May 1913)

First Balkan War: During the Battle of Lemnos, Greek admiral Pavlos Kountouriotis forces the Turkish fleet to retreat to its base within the Dardanelles, from which it did not venture for the rest of the war. (5. January 1913)

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated was founded on the campus of Howard University. (13. January 1913)

Balkan War: Bulgarian forces capture Adrianople. (26. March 1913)

Pedro LascurĂ¡in becomes President of Mexico for 45 minutes; this is the shortest term to date of any person as president of any country. (18. February 1913)

The Greek aviator Emmanouil Argyropoulos becomes the first pilot to die in the Hellenic Air Force when his plane crashes. (4. April 1913)

The United States Department of Labor is formed (4. March 1913)

Greek military aviators, Michael Moutoussis and Aristeidis Moraitinis perform the first naval air mission in history, with a Farman MF.7 hydroplane. (5. February 1913)

The Woolworth Building skyscraper in New York City is opened. (24. April 1913)

Sung Chiao-jen, a founder of the Chinese Nationalist Party, is wounded in an assassination attempt and dies 2 days later. (20. March 1913)

King George I of Greece was assassinated in the recently liberated city of Thessaloniki. (18. March 1913)

First Balkan War: A Greek flotilla defeats the Ottoman Navy in the Naval Battle of Lemnos, securing the islands of the Northern Aegean Sea for Greece. (18. January 1913)

The British Board of Censors is established. (1. January 1913)

Raymond Poincaré is elected President of France. (17. January 1913)

Canberra Day: The future capital of Australia is officially named Canberra. (Melbourne remains temporary capital until 1927 while the new capital is still under construction.) (12. March 1913)

King O'Malley drives in the first survey peg to mark commencement of work on the construction of Canberra. (20. February 1913)

Guatemala becomes a signatory to the Buenos Aires copyright treaty. (28. March 1913)
