The Deutsche Studentenschaft attacked Magnus Hirschfeld's Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, later burning many of its books. (6. May 1933)

The Humanist Manifesto I published (1. May 1933)

The film King Kong opens at New York's Radio City Music Hall. (2. March 1933)

The Reichstag passes the Enabling Act of 1933, making Adolf Hitler dictator of Germany. (23. March 1933)

The first Major League Baseball All-Star Game is played in Chicago's Comiskey Park. The American League defeated the National League 4–2. (6. July 1933)

The Parliament of Austria is suspended because of a quibble over procedure – Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss initiates an authoritarian rule by decree. (4. March 1933)

Yevgeniy Abalakov is the first man to reach the highest point in the Soviet Union, Communism Peak (now called Ismoil Somoni Peak and situated in Tajikistan) (7495 m). (3. September 1933)

In round 13 of a boxing match at New York City's Madison Square Garden, Primo Carnera knocks out Ernie Schaaf. Schaaf dies four days later. (10. February 1933)

The National Industrial Recovery Act is passed. (16. June 1933)

Elizabeth McCombs becomes the first woman elected to the New Zealand Parliament. (13. September 1933)

The Nazi eugenics begins with the proclamation of the Law for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring that calls for the compulsory sterilization of any citizen who suffers from alleged genetic disorders. (14. July 1933)

The first rugby union test match between the Wallabies of Australia and the Springboks of South Africa is played at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. (8. July 1933)

U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs two executive orders: 6101 to establish the Civilian Conservation Corps, and 6102 "forbidding the Hoarding of Gold Coin, Gold Bullion, and Gold Certificates" by U.S. citizens. (5. April 1933)

The Century of Progress World's Fair opens in Chicago, Illinois. (27. May 1933)

The United States Army Disciplinary Barracks on Alcatraz Island, is acquired by the United States Department of Justice (12. October 1933)

The Blaine Act ends Prohibition in the United States. (17. February 1933)

The Civilian Conservation Corps is established with the mission of relieving rampant unemployment in the United States. (31. March 1933)
