The 20th Amendment to the United States Constitution is ratified, changing the beginning and end of terms for all elected federal offices. (24. January 1933)

The name Pakistan is coined by Choudhry Rahmat Ali Khan and is accepted by the Indian Muslims who then thereby adopted it further for the Pakistan Movement seeking independence. (28. January 1933)

Adolf Hitler is sworn in as Chancellor of Germany. (30. January 1933)

Working as maids, the sisters Christine and Lea Papin murder their employer's wife and daughter in Le Mans, France. The case is the subject of a number of French films and plays. (2. February 1933)

In round 13 of a boxing match at New York City's Madison Square Garden, Primo Carnera knocks out Ernie Schaaf. Schaaf dies four days later. (10. February 1933)

In Miami, Florida, Giuseppe Zangara attempts to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt, but instead shoots Chicago mayor Anton J. Cermak, who dies of his wounds on March 6, 1933. (15. February 1933)

The Blaine Act ends Prohibition in the United States. (17. February 1933)

The Congress of the United States proposes the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution that will end Prohibition in the United States. (20. February 1933)

Adolf Hitler secretly meets with German industrialists to arrange for financing of the Nazi Party's upcoming election campaign. (20. February 1933)

The USS Ranger is launched. It is the first US Navy ship to be built solely as an aircraft carrier. (25. February 1933)

Reichstag fire: Germany's parliament building in Berlin, the Reichstag, is set on fire. (27. February 1933)

Gleichschaltung: The Reichstag Fire Decree is passed in Germany a day after the Reichstag fire. (28. February 1933)

The film King Kong opens at New York's Radio City Music Hall. (2. March 1933)

Frances Perkins becomes United States Secretary of Labor, the first female member of the United States Cabinet. (4. March 1933)

The Parliament of Austria is suspended because of a quibble over procedure – Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss initiates an authoritarian rule by decree. (4. March 1933)

Great Depression: President Franklin D. Roosevelt declares a "bank holiday", closing all U.S. banks and freezing all financial transactions. (5. March 1933)
