UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) is formed in Basel, Switzerland. (15. June 1954)

President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorizes the creation of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. (1. April 1954)

Gamal Abdal Nasser seizes power in Egypt. (18. April 1954)

The anti-National Service Riots, by Chinese Middle School students in Singapore, take place. (13. May 1954)

Puerto Rican nationalists attack the United States Capitol building, injuring five Representatives. (1. March 1954)

Getúlio Dornelles Vargas, president of Brazil, commits suicide and is succeeded by João Café Filho. (24. August 1954)

The Geneva Conference, an effort to restore peace in Indochina and Korea, begins. (26. April 1954)

Pope Pius XII canonises Dominic Savio, who was 14 years old at the time of his death, as a saint, making him the youngest non-martyr saint in the Roman Catholic Church. (12. June 1954)

The original Broadway production of The Pajama Game opens and runs for another 1,063 performances. Later received three Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, and Best Choreography. (13. May 1954)

Alfredo Stroessner begins his dictatorship in Paraguay. (15. August 1954)

Radio Pakistan broadcasts the "Qaumī Tarāna", the national anthem of Pakistan for the first time. (13. August 1954)

The German U-Boat U-505 begins its move from a specially constructed dock to its final site at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. (3. September 1954)

Nuclear testing: The Castle Bravo, a 15-megaton hydrogen bomb, is detonated on Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the worst radioactive contamination ever caused by the United States. (1. March 1954)

First flight of the Boeing 367-80, prototype for both the Boeing 707 and C-135 series. (15. July 1954)

Hurricane Hazel devastates the eastern seaboard, killing 95 and causing massive floods as far north as Toronto. As a Category 4 upon landfall, it is the strongest storm on record to strike as far north as North Carolina. (15. October 1954)

Dwight D. Eisenhower pledges United States support to South Vietnam. (24. October 1954)

Frank Selvy becomes the only NCAA Division I basketball player ever to score 100 points in a single game. (13. February 1954)
