Sholom Schwartzbard assassinates Symon Petliura, the head of the government of the Ukrainian People's Republic, which is in government-in-exile in Paris. (25. May 1926)

Harry Houdini performs his greatest feat, spending 91 minutes underwater in a sealed tank before escaping. (5. August 1926)

Western Electric and Warner Bros. announce Vitaphone, a process to add sound to film. (20. April 1926)

Arthur Meighen returns to office as Prime Minister of Canada. (29. June 1926)
