A U.S. Federal Court finds former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega guilty of drug and racketeering charges. He is sentenced to 30 years in prison. (9. April 1992)

Aboriginal Land Rights are granted in Australia in Mabo v Queensland (No 2), a case brought by Eddie Mabo. (3. June 1992)

Abkhazia declares independence from Georgia. (23. July 1992)

An earthquake registering 6.8 on the Richter scale kills over 500 in Erzincan, eastern Turkey. (13. March 1992)

The Michelangelo computer virus begins to affect computers. (6. March 1992)

China General Aviation Flight 7552 from Nanjing Dajiaochang Airport to Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport crashes after taking off, killing 108 of the 116 people on board. (31. July 1992)

Georgia joins the United Nations. (31. July 1992)

The Euro Disney Resort officially opens with its theme park Euro Disneyland. The resort and its park's name are subsequently changed to Disneyland Paris. (12. April 1992)

The blockade of Dubrovnik is broken. Following this, the siege of Dubrovnik ends in the next months. (26. May 1992)

The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, comprising Serbia and Montenegro, is proclaimed. (27. April 1992)

USAir Flight 405 crashes shortly after takeoff from New York City's LaGuardia Airport, leading to a number of studies into the effect that ice has on aircraft. (22. March 1992)

Three employees at a McDonald's Restaurant in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, are brutally murdered and a fourth permanently disabled after a botched robbery. It is the first "fast-food murder" in Canada. (7. May 1992)

After 30 seasons Johnny Carson hosted his penultimate episode and last featuring guests (Robin Williams and Bette Midler) of The Tonight Show. (21. May 1992)

Canada, Mexico and the United States announce completion of negotiations for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). (12. August 1992)

The first discoveries of extrasolar planets are announced by astronomers Alexander Wolszczan and Dale Frail. They discovered two planets orbiting the pulsar PSR 1257+12. (21. April 1992)

The ten victims of the La Cantuta massacre disappear from their university in Lima. (18. July 1992)

In New York, Mafia boss John Gotti is convicted of murder and racketeering and is later sentenced to life in prison. (2. April 1992)
