In Alicante, Spain, fascists attack a group of MCPV militants and sympathizers, and one MCPV sympathizer is killed. (6. October 1977)

Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crashes. (20. October 1977)

The 300 metre tall CKVR-DT transmission tower in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, is hit by a light aircraft in a fog, causing it to collapse. All aboard the aircraft are killed. (7. September 1977)

In Yonkers, New York, 24-year-old postal employee David Berkowitz ("Son of Sam") is arrested for a series of killings in the New York City area over the period of one year. (10. August 1977)

Johnstown, Pennsylvania is hit by a flash flood that kills eighty and causes $350 million in damage. (20. July 1977)

36 people are killed in Taksim Square, Istanbul, during the Labour Day celebrations. (1. May 1977)

Hamida Djandoubi, convicted of torture and murder, is the last person to be executed by guillotine in France. (10. September 1977)

The 1977 riots in Sri Lanka, targeting the minority Sri Lankan Tamil people, begin, less than a month after the United National Party came to power. Over 300 Tamils are killed. (12. August 1977)
