An RAF Chinook helicopter crashes in Scotland killing all 29 on board. The original cause of the crash is ruled as pilot error, this verdict is overturned in 2011. (2. June 1994)

Russian journalist Dmitry Kholodov is assassinated while investigating corruption in the armed forces. (17. October 1994)

Malawi holds its first multi-party elections. (17. May 1994)

Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, also known as "Carlos the Jackal," is captured. (14. August 1994)

Members of the Aum Shinrikyo cult release sarin gas in Matsumoto, Japan; 7 persons are killed, 660 injured. (28. June 1994)

USAir Flight 427, on approach to Pittsburgh International Airport, suddenly crashes in clear weather killing all 132 aboard; resulting in the most extensive aviation investigation in world history and altering manufacturing practices in the industry. (8. September 1994)

North Korea nuclear weapons program: North Korea and the United States sign an agreement that requires North Korea to stop its nuclear weapons program and agree to inspections. (21. October 1994)

Air France Flight 8969 is hijacked on the ground at Houari Boumedienne Airport, Algiers, Algeria. Over the course of 3 days 3 passengers are killed, as are all 4 terrorists. (24. December 1994)

In the United Kingdom, the first National Lottery draw is held. A £1 ticket gave a one-in-14-million chance of correctly guessing the winning six out of 49 numbers. (19. November 1994)

Frank Eugene Corder crashes a single-engine Cessna 150 into the White House's south lawn, striking the West wing and killing himself. (12. September 1994)
