The Everett Massacre takes place in Everett, Washington as political differences lead to a shoot-out between the Industrial Workers of the World organizers and local police. (5. November 1916)

U.S. President Woodrow Wilson signs a bill incorporating the Boy Scouts of America, making them the only American youth organization with a federal charter. (15. June 1916)

Louis Brandeis becomes the first Jew appointed to the United States Supreme Court. (1. June 1916)

World War I: Austrian sabotage causes the sinking of the Italian battleship Leonardo da Vinci in Taranto. (2. August 1916)
