Lebanese Christian militias overrun Karantina, Beirut, killing at least 1,000. (18. January 1976)

Gerald Ford's would-be assassin, Sara Jane Moore, is sentenced to life in prison. (15. January 1976)

The London to Washington, D.C., Concorde service begins. (24. May 1976)

Commercial service of Concorde begins with the London-Bahrain and Paris-Rio routes. (21. January 1976)

The 1976 Constitution of Cuba is adopted by national referendum. (15. February 1976)

Massacre of students gathering at Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand, to protest the return of ex-dictator Thanom, by a coalition of right-wing paramilitary and government forces, triggering the return of the military to government. (6. October 1976)

A group of Croatian nationalists planted a bomb in a coin locker at Grand Central Terminal. After stating political demands, they revealed the location and provided instructions for disarming the bomb. The disarming operation was not executed properly, killing one NYPD bomb squad specialist. (11. September 1976)

Nadia Comăneci became the first person in Olympic Games history to score a perfect 10 in gymnastics at the 1976 Summer Olympics. (18. July 1976)

Sagarmatha National Park in Nepal is created. (19. July 1976)

Turkish Airlines Flight 452 hits the Taurus Mountains, outskirt of Karatepe, Osmaniye, Turkey, killing all 154 passengers and crew. (19. September 1976)

The Seychelles become independent from the United Kingdom. (29. June 1976)

Apneist Jacques Mayol is the first man to reach a depth of 100 m undersea without breathing equipment. (23. November 1976)

The Troubles: The Ulster Volunteer Force shoots dead six Irish Catholic civilians in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. The next day, gunmen shoot dead ten Protestant civilians nearby in retaliation. (4. January 1976)
