Minnie D. Craig becomes the first female elected as Speaker of the North Dakota House of Representatives, the first female to hold a Speaker position anywhere in the United States. (3. January 1933)

In round 13 of a boxing match at New York City's Madison Square Garden, Primo Carnera knocks out Ernie Schaaf. Schaaf dies four days later. (10. February 1933)

U.S. Navy airship, USS Akron, is wrecked off the New Jersey coast due to severe weather. (4. April 1933)

The Imperial Airways biplane City of Liverpool is believed to be the first airline lost to sabotage when a passenger sets a fire on board. (28. March 1933)

Construction of the Golden Gate Bridge begins in San Francisco Bay. (5. January 1933)

Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler ordered the creation of Dachau Concentration Camp as Chief of Police of Munich and appointed Theodor Eicke as the camp commandant. (20. March 1933)

The USS Ranger is launched. It is the first US Navy ship to be built solely as an aircraft carrier. (25. February 1933)

The Blaine Act ends Prohibition in the United States. (17. February 1933)

Adolf Hitler is sworn in as Chancellor of Germany. (30. January 1933)

Great Depression: President Franklin D. Roosevelt declares a "bank holiday", closing all U.S. banks and freezing all financial transactions. (5. March 1933)

The Parliament of Austria is suspended because of a quibble over procedure – Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss initiates an authoritarian rule by decree. (4. March 1933)

The Civilian Conservation Corps is established with the mission of relieving rampant unemployment in the United States. (31. March 1933)

Great Depression: President Franklin D. Roosevelt submits the Emergency Banking Act to Congress, the first of his New Deal policies. (9. March 1933)

Adolf Hitler secretly meets with German industrialists to arrange for financing of the Nazi Party's upcoming election campaign. (20. February 1933)

Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party receives 43.9% at the Reichstag elections. This later allows the Nazis to pass the Enabling Act and establish a dictatorship. (5. March 1933)
