World War II: The Red Army begins encircling the German Fourth Army near Heiligenbeil in East Prussia, which will end in destruction of the 4th Army two months later. (26. January 1945)

The Italian commune of Fornovo di Taro is liberated from German forces by Brazilian forces. (29. April 1945)

World War II: Joseph Goebbels and his wife Magda commit suicide in the Reich Garden outside the Führerbunker. Their children are murdered by Magda by having cyanide pills inserted into their mouths. (1. May 1945)

World War II: Navigational error leads to the mistaken bombing of Prague, Czechoslovakia by an American squadron of B-17s assisting in the Soviet's Vistula–Oder Offensive. (14. February 1945)

World War II: Mostar is liberated by Yugoslav partisans. (14. February 1945)

World War II: On the first day of the bombing of Dresden, the British Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces begin fire-bombing Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony. (14. February 1945)

World War II: Capitulation of German garrison in Poznań. The city is liberated by Soviet and Polish forces. (23. February 1945)

The United States Secretary of State approves the transfer of Wernher von Braun and his team of Nazi rocket scientists to America. (20. June 1945)

Ninety percent of Würzburg, Germany is destroyed in only 20 minutes by British bombers. 5,000 are killed. (16. March 1945)

World War II: The R.A.F.'s first operational use of the Grand Slam bomb, Bielefeld, Germany. (14. March 1945)

World War II: Adolf Hitler issues his "Nero Decree" ordering all industries, military installations, shops, transportation facilities and communications facilities in Germany to be destroyed. (19. March 1945)

First combat mission of the Consolidated B-32 Dominator heavy bomber. (29. May 1945)

World War II: The Empire of Vietnam, a short-lived puppet state, is established with Bảo Đại as its ruler. (11. March 1945)

World War II: Benito Mussolini is arrested by Italian partisans in Dongo, while attempting escape disguised as a German soldier. (27. April 1945)

World War II Adolf Hitler's designated successor Hermann Göring sends him a telegram asking permission to take leadership of the Third Reich, which causes Hitler to replace him with Joseph Goebbels and Karl Dönitz. (23. April 1945)

End of the Prague uprising, celebrated now as a national holiday in the Czech Republic. (8. May 1945)
