Spain declares a protectorate over the north shore of Morocco. (27. November 1912)

Albania declares its independence from the Ottoman Empire. (28. November 1912)

The British passenger liner RMS Titanic sinks in the North Atlantic at 2:20 a.m., two hours and forty minutes after hitting an iceberg. Only 710 of 2,227 passengers and crew on board survive. (15. April 1912)

The eruption of Novarupta in Alaska begins. It is the second largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. (6. June 1912)

First Balkan War: The Ottoman occupied city of Thessaloniki, is liberated and unified with Greece on the feast day of its patron Saint Demetrius. On the same day, Serbian troops captured Skopje. (26. October 1912)

Paramount Pictures is founded. (8. May 1912)

U.S. Marines invade Nicaragua to support the U.S.-backed government installed there after José Santos Zelaya had resigned three years earlier. (14. August 1912)

First Balkan War: Kardzhali is liberated by Bulgarian forces (21. October 1912)

The Regina Cyclone hits Regina, Saskatchewan, killing 28. It remains Canada's deadliest tornado event. (30. June 1912)

The British passenger liner RMS Titanic hits an iceberg in the North Atlantic at 11:40pm (sinks morning of April 15th). (14. April 1912)

Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia declare war on the Ottoman Empire, joining Montenegro in the First Balkan War. (17. October 1912)

Corporal Frank S. Scott of the United States Army becomes the first enlisted man to die in an airplane crash. He and pilot Lt. Lewis C. Rockwell are killed in the crash of an Army Wright Model B at College Park, Maryland. (28. September 1912)

First Balkan War: Peter I of Serbia issues a declaration "To the Serbian People", as Serbia joins the war. (18. October 1912)

Albanian rebels succeed in their revolt when the Ottoman Empire agrees to fulfill their demands (4. September 1912)

Pravda, the "voice" of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, begins publication in Saint Petersburg. (22. April 1912)

Arthur Rose Eldred is awarded the first Eagle Scout award of the Boy Scouts of America. (2. September 1912)

The Helsinki Stock Exchange sees its first transaction. (7. October 1912)

The ill-fated RMS Titanic begins sea trials. (2. April 1912)
