A series of strong storms lashes Southern Ontario spawning several tornadoes as well as creating extreme flash flooding within the city of Toronto and its surrounding communities. In Toronto, it is also dubbed the "Toronto Supercell". (19. August 2005)

Hurricane Rita makes landfall in the United States, devastating Beaumont, Texas and portions of southwestern Louisiana. (24. September 2005)

The superjumbo jet aircraft Airbus A380 makes its first flight from Toulouse, France. (27. April 2005)

Hurricane Katrina devastates much of the U.S. Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle, killing more than 1,836 and causing over $80 billion in damage. (29. August 2005)

Riots begin in Paris after the deaths of two Muslim teenagers. (27. October 2005)

Two EMERCOM Il-76 aircraft land at a disaster aid staging area at Little Rock Air Force Base; the first time Russia has flown such a mission to North America. (8. September 2005)

Wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles; Charles, Prince of Wales marries Camilla Parker Bowles in a civil ceremony at Windsor's Guildhall. (9. April 2005)

STS-114: NASA grounds the Space Shuttle, pending an investigation of the continuing problem with the shedding of foam insulation from the external fuel tank. During ascent, the external tank of the Space Shuttle Discovery sheds a piece of foam slightly smaller than the piece that caused the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster; this foam does not strike the spacecraft. In Gonzales v. Raich, the United States Supreme Court upholds a federal law banning cannabis, including medical marijuana. (6. June 2005)

A series of four explosions occurs on London's transport system killing 56 people including four alleged suicide bombers and injuring over 700 others. (7. July 2005)

Mumbai, India receives 99.5cm of rain (39.17 inches) within 24 hours, bringing the city to a halt for over 2 days. (26. July 2005)

Over 500 bombs are set off by terrorists at 300 locations in 63 out of the 64 districts of Bangladesh (17. August 2005)
