War of 1812: The American schooner USS Carolina is destroyed. It was the last of Commodore Daniel Patterson's makeshift fleet that fought a series of delaying actions that contributed to Andrew Jackson's victory at the Battle of New Orleans. (27. December 1814)

The Convention of London, a treaty between the United Kingdom and the United Provinces, is signed in London, England. (13. August 1814)

Indian Wars: the Creek sign the Treaty of Fort Jackson, giving up huge parts of Alabama and Georgia. (9. August 1814)

The poem Defence of Fort McHenry is written by Francis Scott Key. The poem is later used as the lyrics of The Star-Spangled Banner. (14. September 1814)

War of 1812: Battle of Lundy's Lane – reinforcements arrive near Niagara Falls for General Riall's British and Canadian forces and a bloody, all-night battle with Jacob Brown's Americans commences at 18.00; the Americans retreat to Fort Erie. (25. July 1814)

War of 1812: The climax of the Battle of Plattsburgh, a major United States victory in the war. (11. September 1814)

War of 1812: General Phineas Riall advances toward the Niagara River to halt Jacob Brown's American invaders. (24. July 1814)

Battle of North Point: an American detachment halts the British land advance to Baltimore in the War of 1812. (12. September 1814)

British troops invade Washington, D.C. and during the Burning of Washington the White House, the Capitol and many other buildings are set ablaze. (24. August 1814)

Emperor Napoleon I of France arrives at Portoferraio on the island of Elba to begin his exile. (4. May 1814)

War of 1812: Battle of Chippawa – American Major General Jacob Brown defeats British General Phineas Riall at Chippawa, Ontario. (5. July 1814)

War of 1812: The Royal Navy seizes control of Lake Borgne, Louisiana. (14. December 1814)

The Times in London is for the first time printed by automatic, steam powered presses built by the German inventors Friedrich Koenig and Andreas Friedrich Bauer, signaling the beginning of the availability of newspapers to a mass audience. (28. November 1814)

Joachim Murat issues the Rimini Declaration which would later inspire Italian Unification. (30. March 1814)

War of 1812: In central Alabama, U.S. forces under General Andrew Jackson defeat the Creek at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. (27. March 1814)

Opening of the Congress of Vienna, intended to redraw Europe's political map after the defeat of Napoléon the previous spring. (1. October 1814)

In a turning point in the War of 1812, the British fail to capture Baltimore. During the battle, Francis Scott Key composes his poem "Defence of Fort McHenry", which is later set to music and becomes the United States' national anthem. (13. September 1814)

The Treaty of Ghent is signed ending the War of 1812. (24. December 1814)

Napoleon I of France is defeated at the Battle of Laon in France. (10. March 1814)
