President Dwight D. Eisenhower gives his "domino theory" speech during a news conference. (7. April 1954)

The original Broadway production of The Pajama Game opens and runs for another 1,063 performances. Later received three Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, and Best Choreography. (13. May 1954)

The Geneva Conference, an effort to restore peace in Indochina and Korea, begins. (26. April 1954)

Willie Mosconi sets a world record by running 526 consecutive balls without a miss during a straight pool exhibition at East High Billiard Club in Springfield, Ohio. The record still stands today. (19. March 1954)

Pope Pius XII canonises Dominic Savio, who was 14 years old at the time of his death, as a saint, making him the youngest non-martyr saint in the Roman Catholic Church. (12. June 1954)

First Indochina War: Battle of Mang Yang Pass – PAVN troops belonging to the 803rd Regiment ambushes G.M. 100 of France in An Khê. (24. June 1954)

President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorizes the creation of the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. (1. April 1954)

McCarthyism: Joseph Welch, special counsel for the United States Army, lashes out at Senator Joseph McCarthy during hearings on whether Communism has infiltrated the Army giving McCarthy the famous rebuke, "You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?" (9. June 1954)

Puerto Rican nationalists attack the United States Capitol building, injuring five Representatives. (1. March 1954)
