Halley's Comet and Earth experienced their closest approach to one another when their separating distance equalled 0.0342 AU (3.2 million miles). (10. April 837)

Battle of Clavijo: The Apostle Saint James the Greater is said to have miraculously appeared to a force of outnumbered Asturians and aided them against the forces of the Emir of Cordoba. (23. May 844)

In the Battle of Fontenay-en-Puisaye, forces led by Charles the Bald and Louis the German defeat the armies of Lothair I of Italy and Pepin II of Aquitaine. (25. June 841)

Pactum Sicardi, a peace treaty between the Principality of Benevento and the Duchy of Naples, is signed. (4. July 836)

Battle of Anzen: the Byzantine emperor Theophilos suffers a heavy defeat by the Abbasids. (22. July 838)

Battle of Pliska: Byzantine Emperor Nikephoros I I is killed and his heir Staurakios is seriously wounded. (26. July 811)

The first King of all Brittany, Nominoe, defeats the Frankish king Charles the Bald at the Battle of Ballon near Redon. (22. November 845)

Sweet Dew Incident: Emperor Wenzong of the Tang Dynasty conspires to kill the powerful eunuchs of the Tang court, but the plot is foiled. (14. December 835)
