Emperor Julian marches back up the Tigris and burns his fleet of supply ships. During the withdrawal Roman forces suffering several attacks from the Persians. (16. June 363)

Roman Emperor Julian is killed during the retreat from the Sassanid Empire. General Jovian is proclaimed Emperor by the troops on the battlefield. (26. June 363)

Roman usurper Nepotianus, of the Constantinian dynasty, is defeated and killed by troops of the usurper Magnentius, in Rome. (30. June 350)

Battle of Adrianople: Constantine I defeats Licinius, who flees to Byzantium. (3. July 324)

Battle of Mantinea: The Thebans, led by Epaminondas, defeated the Spartans. (4. July 362. BC)

The official opening of the Constantine's Bridge built over the Danube between Sucidava (Corabia, Romania) and Oescus (Gigen, Bulgaria) by the Roman architect Theophilus Patricius (5. July 328)

The Battle of Leuctra, where Epaminondas defeated Cleombrotus I, takes place (6. July 371. BC)

Roman-Gaulish Wars: Battle of the Allia – a Roman army is defeated by raiding Gauls, leading to the subsequent sacking of Rome. (18. July 390. BC)

Roman–Persian Wars: Emperor Julian arrives at Antioch with a Roman expeditionary force (60,000 men) and stays there for nine months to launch a campaign against the Persian Empire. (18. July 362)

The Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is destroyed by arson. (21. July 356. BC)

A tsunami devastates the city of Alexandria, Egypt. The tsunami was caused by the Crete earthquake estimated to be 8.0 on the Richter scale. 5,000 people perished in Alexandria, and 45,000 more died outside the city. (21. July 365)

Constantine I is proclaimed Roman emperor by his troops. (25. July 306)

The Arch of Constantine is completed near the Colosseum in Rome to commemorate Constantine I's victory over Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge. (25. July 315)

A Macedonian army led by Philip II defeated the combined forces of Athens and Thebes in the Battle of Chaeronea, securing Macedonian hegemony in Greece and the Aegean. (2. August 338. BC)

Gratian, son of Roman Emperor Valentinian I, is named co-Augustus by his father and associated to the throne aged eight. (4. August 367)

Battle of Crannon between Athens and Macedon. (7. August 322. BC)

Gothic War: Battle of Adrianople – A large Roman army led by Emperor Valens is defeated by the Visigoths. Valens is killed along with over half of his army. (9. August 378)

Claudius Silvanus, accused of treason, proclaims himself Roman Emperor against Constantius II. (11. August 355)

Pope Eusebius is banished by the Emperor Maxentius to Sicily, where he dies, perhaps from a hunger strike. (17. August 310)
