Battle of Dong-Yin, a naval conflict between ROC and PRC, takes place. (1. May 1965)

Vietnam War: A car bomb explodes in front of the United States Embassy, Saigon, killing 22 and wounding 183 others. (30. March 1965)

Malcolm X is assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City by members of the Nation of Islam. (21. February 1965)

The Gambia becomes independent from the United Kingdom. (18. February 1965)

The infamous first Reyes party between Ken Kesey's Merry Pranksters and motorcycle gang the Hells Angels takes place at Kesey's estate in La Honda, California introducing psychedelics to the gang world and forever linking the hippie movement to the Hell's Angels. (7. August 1965)

The British Government announces the cancellation of the TSR-2 aircraft project. (6. April 1965)

Race riots (the Watts Riots) begin in the Watts area of Los Angeles, California. (11. August 1965)

Colonel Phạm Ngọc Thảo of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, and a communist spy of the North Vietnamese Viet Minh, along with Generals Lâm Văn Phát and Trần Thiện Khiêm attempted a coup against the military junta of Nguyễn Khánh. (19. February 1965)

Civil rights activists led by Martin Luther King, Jr. successfully complete their 4-day 50-mile march from Selma to the capitol in Montgomery, Alabama. (25. March 1965)

United States President Lyndon B. Johnson proclaims his "Great Society" during his State of the Union address. (4. January 1965)

The civilian Prime Minister of South Vietnam, Phan Huy Quat, resigns after being unable to work with a junta led by Nguyen Cao Ky. (9. June 1965)

The first model of the new Saab Viggen fighter aircraft is unveiled. (4. April 1965)

March Intifada: A Leftist uprising erupts in Bahrain against British colonial presence. (5. March 1965)

U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Social Security Act of 1965 into law, establishing Medicare and Medicaid. (30. July 1965)
