The first-ever joint military exercise between Russia and China, called Peace Mission 2005 begins. (19. August 2005)

Four terrorist bombings, occurring exactly two weeks after the similar July 7 bombings, target London's public transportation system. All four bombs fail to detonate and all four suspected suicide bombers are captured and later convicted and imprisoned for long terms. (21. July 2005)
