The Nez Perce tribe is awarded $4 million for 7 million acres (28,000 km2) of land undervalued at 4 cents/acre in the 1863 treaty. (17. June 1960)

An airplane carrying the Cal Poly football team crashes on takeoff in Toledo, Ohio. (29. October 1960)

A military coup against President Ngo Dinh Diem of South Vietnam is crushed. (11. November 1960)

In Turkey, a military coup removes President Celal Bayar and the rest of the democratic government from office. (27. May 1960)
