Cuba and the United States formally agree to begin an airlift for Cubans who want to go to the United States. By 1971, 250,000 Cubans had made use of this program. (6. November 1965)

Vietnam War: General William Westmoreland sends U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara a request for 243,000 more men by the end of 1966. (16. December 1965)

Vietnam War: Operation Starlite begins – United States Marines destroy a Viet Cong stronghold on the Van Tuong peninsula in the first major American ground battle of the war. (18. August 1965)

A Rolling Stones concert in London, Ontario is shut down by police after 15 minutes due to rioting. (26. April 1965)

Norman Morrison, a 31-year-old Quaker, sets himself on fire in front of the river entrance to the Pentagon to protest the use of napalm in the Vietnam war. (2. November 1965)

Israeli spy Eli Cohen was hanged in Damascus, Syria. (18. May 1965)

Vietnam War: Just miles from Da Nang, United States Marines repel an intense attack by wave after wave of Viet Cong forces, killing 56 guerrillas. (30. October 1965)

Venera program: The Soviet Union launches the Venera 3 space probe toward Venus, which will be the first spacecraft to reach the surface of another planet. (16. November 1965)

The 1964-1965 New York World's Fair closes after a two year run. More than 51 million people had attended the two-year event. (17. October 1965)

India's Border Security Force is established. (1. December 1965)

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 (also known as the Second Kashmir War) between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, ends after the UN calls for a cease-fire. (22. September 1965)

Joseph-Désiré Mobutu seizes power in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and becomes President; he rules the country (which he renames Zaire in 1971) for over 30 years, until being overthrown by rebels in 1997. (24. November 1965)
