Estonian school girls Aili Jõgi and Ageeda Paavel blow up the Soviet memorial which stood in front of the Bronze Soldier in Tallinn. (8. May 1946)

In the Canadian Citizenship Act, the Parliament of Canada establishes the definition of Canadian citizenship. (27. June 1946)

King Ananda Mahidol is found shot dead in his bedroom, Bhumibol Adulyadej ascends to the throne of Thailand. He is currently the world's longest reigning monarch. (9. June 1946)

The "Battle of Alcatraz" takes place; two guards and three inmates are killed. (2. May 1946)

The 1946 Vancouver Island earthquake strikes Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. (23. June 1946)

Ion Antonescu, "Conducator" (leader) of Romania during World War II, is executed. (1. June 1946)

King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy abdicates and is succeeded by Umberto II. (9. May 1946)

Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering (later renamed Sony) is founded with around 20 employees. (7. May 1946)

The National Democratic Front wins a landslide victory in the municipal elections in French India. (23. June 1946)

Start of 3 year Pilbara strike of Indigenous Australians. (1. May 1946)

In San Francisco Bay, U.S. Marines from the nearby Treasure Island Naval Base stop a two-day riot at Alcatraz federal prison. Five people are killed in the riot. (4. May 1946)

Physicist Louis Slotin is fatally irradiated in a criticality incident during an experiment with the Demon core at Los Alamos National Laboratory. (21. May 1946)

A fire in the La Salle Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, kills 61 people. (5. June 1946)

The Paris Peace Conference concludes that the islands of the Dodecanese should be returned to Greece by Italy. (1. May 1946)
