Highwayman Nicolas J. Pelletier becomes the first person executed by guillotine. (25. April 1792)

France invades the Austrian Netherlands (present day Belgium), beginning the French Revolutionary War. (28. April 1792)

U.S. President George Washington exercises his authority to veto a bill, the first time this power is used in the United States. (5. April 1792)

Mount Hood (Oregon) is named after the British naval officer Alexander Arthur Hood by Lt. William E. Broughton who spotted the mountain near the mouth of the Willamette River. (29. October 1792)

The National Convention declares France a republic and abolishes the monarchy. (21. September 1792)

The New York Stock Exchange is formed. (17. May 1792)

La Marseillaise (the French national anthem) is composed by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle. (25. April 1792)

King Louis XVI of France is formally arrested by the National Tribunal, and declared an enemy of the people. (13. August 1792)

Maximilien de Robespierre presents the petition of the Commune of Paris to the Legislative Assembly, which demanded the formation of a revolutionary tribunal. (16. August 1792)

Marc-David Lasource begins accusing Maximilien Robespierre of wanting a dictatorship for France. (26. September 1792)

The Brunswick Manifesto is issued to the population of Paris promising vengeance if the French Royal Family is harmed. (25. July 1792)

Captain Robert Gray becomes the first documented white person to sail into the Columbia River. (11. May 1792)

In Washington, D.C., the cornerstone of the United States Executive Mansion (known as the White House since 1818) is laid. (13. October 1792)

The Coinage Act is passed establishing the United States Mint. (2. April 1792)
