Gabriel Prosser postpones a planned slave rebellion in Richmond, Virginia, but is arrested before he can make it happen. (30. August 1800)

The French garrison in Valletta surrenders to British troops who had been called at the invitation of the Maltese. The islands of Malta and Gozo become the Malta Protectorate. (4. September 1800)

David Thompson reached the mouth of the Saskatchewan River in Manitoba. (7. June 1800)

The French Army of First Consul Napoleon Bonaparte defeats the Austrians at the Battle of Marengo in Northern Italy and re-conquers Italy. (14. June 1800)

Britain takes control of the Dutch colony of Curaçao. (17. October 1800)

The United States Library of Congress is established when President John Adams signs legislation to appropriate $5,000 USD to purchase "such books as may be necessary for the use of Congress". (24. April 1800)

John Adams becomes the first President of the United States to live in the Executive Mansion (later renamed the White House). (1. November 1800)

French corsair Robert Surcouf, commander of the 18-gun ship La Confiance, captures the British 38-gun Kent inspiring the traditional French song Le Trente-et-un du mois d'août. (7. October 1800)

The Acts of Union 1800 is passed in which merges the Kingdom of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. (1. August 1800)
