Spanish Civil War: The Battle of Guadalajara begins. (8. March 1937)

Volkswagen (VW), the German automobile manufacturer was founded. (28. May 1937)

Chinese Air Force Day: The beginning of air-to-air combat of the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II in general, when 6 Imperial Japanese Mitsubishi G3M bombers are shot down by the Nationalist Chinese Air Force while raiding Chinese air bases. (14. August 1937)

The Duke and Duchess of York are crowned as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at a ceremony in Westminster Abbey. (12. May 1937)

End of the Battle of Brunete in the Spanish Civil War. (26. July 1937)

Ponce Massacre: 18 people and a 7-year-old girl in Ponce, Puerto Rico, are gunned down by a police squad acting under orders of US-appointed Governor, Blanton C. Winship. (21. March 1937)

Adolf Hitler holds a secret meeting and states his plans for acquiring "living space" for the German people. (5. November 1937)

In the Spanish Civil War, the Basque Army surrenders to the Italian Corpo Truppe Volontarie following the Santoña Agreement. (24. August 1937)

Spanish Civil War: Guernica (or Gernika in Basque), Spain is bombed by German Luftwaffe. (26. April 1937)

The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, is officially opened by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington, D.C., who pushes a button signaling the start of vehicle traffic over the span. (28. May 1937)

Yekatit 12: During a public ceremony at the Viceregal Palace (the former Imperial residence) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, two Ethiopian nationalists of Eritrean origin attempt to kill viceroy Rodolfo Graziani with a number of grenades. (19. February 1937)

Second Sino-Japanese War: Battle of Nanking – Nanjing, defended by the National Revolutionary Army under the command of General Tang Shengzhi, falls to the Japanese. This is followed by the Nanking Massacre, in which Japanese troops rape and murder hundreds of thousands of civilians. (13. December 1937)

Josip Broz Tito reads the resolution "Manifesto of constitutional congress of KPH" to the constitutive congress of KPH (Croatian Communist Party) in woods near Samobor. (1. August 1937)

Tōngzhōu Incident: in Tōngzhōu, China, the East Hopei Army attacks Japanese troops and civilians. (29. July 1937)

The New London School explosion killed 300 people, mostly children. (18. March 1937)

Dominican Republic strongman Rafael Trujillo orders the execution of the Haitian population living within the borderlands; approximately 20,000 are killed over the next five days. (2. October 1937)
