Ford puts the Model T car on the market at a price of US$825. (1. October 1908)

Khilafat Day – the day of establishment of Khilafat in Islam Ahmadiyya. (27. May 1908)

A magnitude 7.2 earthquake rocks Messina, Sicily, Italy killing over 75,000. (28. December 1908)

Ajinomoto is founded. Kikunae Ikeda of the Tokyo Imperial University discovers that a key ingredient in kombu soup stock is monosodium glutamate (MSG), and patents a process for manufacturing it. (25. July 1908)

Wilbur Wright makes his first flight at a racecourse at Le Mans, France. It is the Wright Brothers' first public flight. (8. August 1908)

The Congress of Manastir establishes the Albanian alphabet. (22. November 1908)

At Masjed Soleyman (مسجد سليمان) in southwest Persia, the first major commercial oil strike in the Middle East is made. The rights to the resource are quickly acquired by the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. (26. May 1908)

SMS Blücher, the last armored cruiser to be built by the German Imperial Navy, launches. (11. April 1908)

The Chicago Cubs defeat the Detroit Tigers, 2-0, clinching the World Series. It would be their last one to date. (14. October 1908)

University of Alberta in Alberta, Canada, is founded. (23. September 1908)

Japanese immigration to Brazil begins when 781 people arrive in Santos aboard the ship Kasato-Maru. (18. June 1908)

H. H. Asquith of the Liberal Party takes office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, succeeding Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (7. April 1908)
